5 Free ways to promote your health and wellbeing this summer

If you're trying to juggle the school holidays with the kids, your health and wellbeing and looking for harmony and balance this summer here are 5 ways to combine them all. Promote your health and wellbeing, save money, while exploring what we have right here on our doorstep in Barry.


1 ~ Keep Hydrated

This is top on the list as it's so important to keep our body hydrated and even more so during summer. When we are hydrated our body functions to it's maximum potential reducing headaches, pain and by keeping hydrated it helps our mind, body and soul in a positive way promoting your health and wellness.

There are many free water refill stations located in and around Barry at Romilly Park, The Knapp and many local businesses visit https://www.refill.org.uk/ and download the app to see places near you to keep you hydrated and refill your water bottle for free.


2 ~ Make use of the great outdoors and connect to nature

Go for a relaxing walk or simply enjoy exploring the parks, woods, beaches and walking routes in and around Barry and the Vale of Glamorgan such as Porthkerry, Romilly park, Victoria Park, Knap Gardens, Central Park, Marine Drive (Many also have child play areas - Pencoedtre even has a splash pad too!). Go exploring your local parks and look at all of the varieties of birds, insects, fish and animals you see at these places. Make a day of it and take a picnic too (and don't forget to put your rubbish in the bin or take it home with you). A trip to the beach can help promote your health and wellbeing by reducing stress, lower your blood pressure, promote your mental health, increase the release of the feel good hormones, positivity and self esteem. Walk barefoot or go for a swim in the sea, living in Barry we are spoilt for choice with beaches like Barry Island, Watchtower Bay, Jacksons Bay, The Knap, Porthkerry just to name a few. 


4 ~ Pause, admire the views and take deep relaxing breaths 

We all need to pause, look at beautiful Barry and absorb all of the beauty that we have around us, the sea views, the greenery, sunrise, sunsets, moon or watch aeroplanes, boats and the world go by while taking slow deep breaths in and out. Breathing helps us to relax and provides the cells in our body with all that they require to function to it's maximum potential.


5 ~ Exercise 

If you find exercise helps clear your head and promote your health and wellbeing go for a run or visit the parks nearby and see if there's an outdoor gym just like the Jenner Road Outdoor gym at Alexandra Gardens where you can keep fit for free.
